{Travel} An Artsy Escape
A weekend trip is always on demand! My desire to explore upstate New York became unstoppable After visiting Hudson a few months ago (see post here). Simon mentioned about Storm King Art Center after watching the new season of Master of None, (highly recommended btw), but we were too lazy to plan. Since I am guilty of being the lazier one, I took initiative this time and planned a 3 days 2 nights trip. For our itinerary, we are spending our days at The Storm King Art Center, Dia: Beacon Museum, and staying at the Roundhouse.
We like to take it super easy on vacation by doing random exploring and bar hopping and tons of eating... So finding a great hotel with great views and food/beverage option is essential to having a satisfying vacation. I am so glad I found the Roundhouse at Beacon, New York. It is a unique historic property overlooking a beautiful waterfall, rushing creeks, and bustling street corner in charming Beacon and with a Michelin starred chef!
The roundhouse has two separate hotel buildings 5 minutes walk away from each other, providing rooms with different layout and views. We stayed at The Roundhouse side with restaurant down below our room and a creek view from the window. The other building has mountain view and a lookout to the waterfall.
We went down to the patio grill right after we checked in! We enjoyed some signature cocktails with local ingredients like the Renegade with house infused strawberry vodka (strawberry is in season) and the Beacon Bourbon Manhattan!
For all the foodie friends! The restaurant is run by Chef Brennan who opened Picholine in Manhattan that got 3 stars from The New York Times, 4 stars from the New York Magazine, as well as 2 stars in the Michelin Guide. The menu features local ingredients sourced from Hudson Valley. We were originally looking to go to some local farms in the Hudson Valley for a true dinning experience at the farm, but couldn't get any reservation due to procrastination. But I feel like dining here is such a good alternative >.< We dined outdoor at the patio grill starting with Nose to Tail tasting board, you can choose 3 items from the 12 options for your board, it goes down very nicely with the drinks! Especially when dining outdoor!
They have a separate building for event space, hosting wedding and corporate events.
Dia: Beacon Museum

In May 2003, Dia Art Foundation opened Dia:Beacon on the banks of the Hudson River in Beacon, New York, in a former Nabisco box printing factory. The museum presents Dia’s collection of art from the 1960s to the present as well as special exhibitions and public programs.
Storm King Art Center

Be prepare to walk a lot! Make sure you pack your best walking shoes! But it won't disappoint you!
